About the Author
Robert A.
Stein - Robert A. Stein, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the
American Bar Association, is the former dean of the University of Minnesota Law
School, Minneapolis. He has served as executive director since 1994.
Stein has overall management responsibility for staff operations at the Associations headquarters in Chicago and its Washington, D.C., office.
Overseeing a staff of more than 900 persons and budgets of more than $175 million, Stein also is responsible for the development and execution of strategic and tactical plans to implement the programs and policies adopted by the ABAs Board of Governors and House of Delegates.
Stein served as chair of the ABAs Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar, as well as a member of the American Bar Foundation Board of Directors and the Minnesota State Bar Association Board of Governors prior to his appointment as executive director of the ABA.
